Black Lines on the Edge of Your CarpetWhat are the Black Edges?
Are you wondering what those dirty, black lines that show up around the edge of your carpet are? It’s called Carpet Filtration Soiling. Carpet Filtration Soiling can be found along walls, under doors, and around the edge of HVAC registers- really anywhere there is air flow being forced through the carpet.
What Causes the Black Lines?
When air pressure and currents encounter a restriction, the air will pass through the carpet. The carpet acts as a filter trapping whatever small particulates, oil and other pollutants are in the air.
The lighter the carpet- the more visible this will be. The filtration soil may include: candle soot, particles from incomplete combustion due to a maladjusted furnace, cooking oils, vehicle exhaust and particles from a myriad of many other sources.
These are very small particles and are difficult to remove with agitation only. Using a cleaning solution and the help of a truck mount with hot steam extraction can help to remove these stains. Since filtration soil varies from home to home, the ability to remove the stains also varies.
